How to Measure Your Ring Finger

Measuring your ring finger is easy and can be done at home with a few simple tools. You can use a fit ring to measure its inner diameter or directly measure the circumference of your finger. Here are step-by-step guides for both of these methods:

Diameter

Get a Fit Ring: Take a ring that fits your finger comfortably.
Place on the Ruler: Place the ring on a ruler.
Measure the Diameter: Measure the internal diameter of the ring from one edge to the opposite edge. Ensure you measure from the inside edges. And then record this measurement. It is the inside diameter that your new ring should have.

Circumference

Get a String or Paper Strip: Find a thin piece of string or a strip of paper. Make sure it’s long enough to wrap around your finger.
Wrap It Around Your Finger: Wrap the string or paper strip around the base of your intended ring finger. Ensure it’s snug but not too tight; it should mimic how a ring would fit.
Mark the Overlap Point: Use a pen to mark the point where the end of the string or paper meets around your finger.
Measure the Length: Lay the string or paper flat and use a ruler to measure the length up to the marked point in millimeters. This measurement is the circumference of your finger.

Or, you could directly use a soft measuring tape to wrap around your ring finger. Look at the point where the tape overlaps and read the measurement in millimeters. It is the circumference of your finger.

A Few Tips

When measuring your ring finger, it’s best to do it at the end of the day since fingers tend to be at their largest size in the morning. Cold conditions can also make your fingers smaller, so try to measure when your hands are at a normal temperature.

Besides, if you find yourself hesitating between two sizes, opt for the slightly larger one. It is usually a safer choice to ensure comfort.
