Breaking Down the China Size
Chinese sizes, like any secret code, have their own lingo. So, let’s break it down in a way that even my old English teacher would appreciate (and she was tough as nails!). The sizes are typically written as “height/bust or waist (body type),” like “170/88A”. You don’t need a degree in cryptography to decode this. Let’s make it as easy as apple pie.
- Height
- The first number before the slash, in this case, 170, represents your height in centimeters. (That’s around 5’7″ for the metrically challenged among us).
- Bust or Waist
- Post-slash, the 88 is the bust or waist measurement (also in cm). For tops, it’s usually the bust measurement, while pants will show the waist measurement. It’s your tell-tale sign when you’re trying to squeeze into a size too small.
- Body Type
- The cherry on top is the letter at the end – this is your body type code. It indicates the difference between the bust and waist measurements. ‘A’ is for the regular body type, ‘B’ is for a slightly plumper figure, ‘C’ is for a fuller figure, and ‘Y’ is for the slimmer folks among us.
For instance, if we take 170/88A, it refers to someone 170cm tall with a bust or waist of 88cm and a normal difference between the bust and waist sizes.
